    Description

This is a completely hand made bead covered wood carved mask made by the Huichol Indians in Nayarit Mexico. The mask itself is hand carved wood that is covered with a layer of beeswax and then one by one, the glass seed beads are picked up by a long needle and carefully placed in the wax forming intricate shamanic designs.
    It measures 6 in x 3.5 in
This is a very intricate work of art, and it takes a long time to make one.
I have several of them posted.
I bought in Nayarit Mexico about 15 years ago, directly from the Huichol Indian maker, packed it neatly away until now. Therefore you get the quality from way back then in brand new condition.
The Huichol live in the northern part of the states of Nayarit and Jalisco and in the southern parts of Durango and Zacatecas, Mexico.
The Huichol is a native culture that is completely alive and protected.
It is worth googling them to know more. They are truly fascinating.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
    ------
A long time ago, I invested a bunch of money buying uniquely beautiful handmade items in Mexico anticipating opening a gallery. I packed everything neatly away, and my plans changed. I now unpacked boxes of beautiful, excellent quality, hand picked items including Huichol bead work and yarn work art as well as Mata Ortiz Pottery. I will be posting regularly.
