You might ask:
"Why spend that kind of money on a freewheel when I can get a cassette for just a little more? "
Here's the answer:
Freewheels have long been the Achilles' heel of the single speed industry. The problem has been twofold; 1) dirt gets inside and “gums” up the mechanism 2) the inexpensive freewheel is not precision built and bearings are easily compromised.
Both of these problems plague the consistent engagement of the typical or average inexpensive freewheel. Sometimes it may engage at 15 degrees and sometimes it may engage at 9 degrees. A true precision freewheel will engage at precisely 10 degrees consistently. Consistent engagement is necessary for proper training and conditioning and is MORE IMPORTANT than having more engagement points. I would rather have a precision freewheel with 36 engagement points that a cassette with 72 engagement points that is NOT precision quality. COMPARE: as true Precision cassettes are typically well over 0 just for the parts.
Think about it! The Freewheel is the most complex and technically advanced part of the bike and most of us go out and spend on a cheap freewheel. If you are going to buy 0 Headsets and advanced frame designs you might as well step up to the plate here first.
White Freewheels have supieor seals and do not require much maintenance, HOWEVER they are completely rebuildable by the average bike enthusiast.
You can feel the quality just holding one of these unit in your hands. Give it a try and if you are not satisfied when you get it you can send it back for full store credit. Just do not install it.
Big favorite with
BMX
racers! Fits on large side of BMX Flip Flop Hubs and most single side hubs.
NOTICE for FITMENT:
This Freewheel is design to thread onto a standard hub 1.375" x 24 tpi. On a Flip Flop type hub this is the larger threaded side.
All single freewheel sizes can use both 3/32” and 1/8” chains
except the 16 tooth.
The 16 tooth freewheels do not have enough room below
the teeth to allow a 1/8” chain to fully engage the teeth
which can result in premature wear. Some 1/8" chains will work with the 16 tooth without any performance loss but there may be some accelerated wear.
