    Description

Schneider G-Claron 150mm f/9 Enlarging Lens - GREAT FOR 4X5 PRINTING OR SHOOTING
This is the Schneider G-Claron 150mm f/9 lens for photographic enlarging with film sizes up to 4x5in. Optically perfect, there are no marks or abrasions in glass or coatings. Cosmetically used, the mount and aperture ring carry the marks of normal use. The aperture ring works perfectly and is detented in 1/2 stop increments. It ships with a mounting ring ready to install on your enlarger’s lensboard.
The G-Claron was designed and manufactured as a process lens. Process lenses are designed to be used in process cameras to make color separation plates/negatives by copying flat artwork. The plate/negative is used for mechanical reproduction via a printing press. The lenses are optimized for shooting flat surfaces at 1:1 (full life-size) magnification. Often available in barrel - without a shutter - they are thus generally priced lower than other lenses of comparable focal length. They don't have a lot of extra coverage for camera movement, but notable for extreme sharpness with minimal amounts of distortion.
Though mounted as an enlarger lens, it can be used as a lens in barrel for shooting or it can be mounted in a Copal 0, or other similar shutter, for shooting razor sharp 4x5 film images. At f/9 it’s not a speed burner as large format lenses go, however the G-Claron is likely to be the most versatile lens you’ve ever used. It has a great reputation and a new one wouldn’t be much cleaner, just more expensive, if you could find one...
