REALLY RARE Old Yao Mien Silver Clasp Button
This was a really rare find... indeed. I just returned from Laos where I was fortunate enough to find this really rare Yao Mien silver button clasp. Formerly, clasps like this used to be worn
on the ceremonial dress
by Yao men and women at festivals, religious holidays, weddings etc. The silver clasp would be sewn to the clothing through the two small holes located in the upper left-hand corner of the clasp. Then the hook on the back of the clasp would be attached or hooked through a loop or hole on the other side of the garment... similar to a large button on the belt buckle. Several of these silver clasps would adorn the front of the already spectacular garment lending, even more, glamour to the outfit. Nowadays such pieces are extremely rare as traditional ways are giving way to the modern world. This piece could easily be attached to a chain or leather strap and make an eye-catching pendant.
