Description
Huichol Yarn Painting Original Mexican Folk Art Signed Gonzalo Flores Canare 8x8The Huichol are famous for their yarn paintings as well as the newer bead work with animal themes. The Huichol have maintained a separate culture, never conquered by the Spanish, and are know for their annual pilgrimage to obtain peyote which they are allowed to use in religious ceremonies. They are based in Jalisco. They maintain their indigenous religion and the peyote ceremonies are part of that religious experience. Their art work in these yarn paintings share some of those experiences, vivid colors.
I think the Spanish on the back reads "Este Cuadro nas representa Arakure huichol que el esta preparado las ofrendas para hacer la fiesta tradicional y luego los dioses hacistan espitiual mente a la ceremonian artesar" but my knowledge of the local dialect is lacking and the writing is not easily read.
I think this translates as : This painting represents Huichol (Arakure (actor/shaman?) as he is preparing the offerings for a traditional festival and then the gods make (or become part of) the ceremonial crafts " This would be in keeping with their traditional religious beliefs.

AlleyJcat is a small 2-family member company and we can’t always offer free shipping, however, with the increasing rates,
we find anything over 3 pounds seems to be cheaper with FedEx and that is an option we list.
We are located in COLORADO (ZONE 5 USPS) so within a few hundred miles of the middle of the continental United States, that helps those on the coasts and the south with lower zone rates.
WE NEVER charge a HANDLING FEE!
WE PAY INSURANCE.
If you choose FED EX or USPS, you are getting our FED EX or USPS discount, you don't see that amount, you only see your cost AFTER discount is applied.
If you like the item, and are not immediately purchasing or making an offer/bid -- consider putting it on your "watch" list as the search engines don't always bring up the items in the order you first saw them when you search later -- or "like" my store -- it is easy to "unwatch or "unlike" but this will save this item's listing for you and will remind you when listing is about to expire.
