Beautiful, bright multi-colored yarn painting, or Neirika, handmade and signed with the story by the artist.
Using the traditional Huichol and Tepehuan techniques of adding Campeche beeswax onto a board and pressing (one-by-one) pieces of dried yarn into the wax, this bright yarn painting depicts the offering message to the Huichol Gods.
The well known artist, Maximiliano Bautista Cervante, defined his work with the story on the back of this yarn painting.
Maximiliano is a Huichol artist and is well known for his attention to colors and details
. We have done our best to translate the description:
The hummingbird is on the third envoy of the Healer to the God of Water so that it rains and the crops are good
. The Healer blesses the cornfields so that they cut corn and divide it among the people. The bule (bottle gourd) that has benign water, the macuchi, they use it to consult with them.

This artist's yarn paintings have attention to detail and are breathtaking. The hummingbird, who is able to draw nectar from the Peyote flowers, has gorgeous brown, tan, bronze and white overlapping feathers, a brilliant yellow and metallic orange wing, tail feathers and beak. On the left, is the water god, under graduated purple Peyote, fanning the Hummingbird with the macuchi leaves. The gourd bottle has the benign water in graduated browns with blue/white, turquoise/white water. The rain is growing in strength above the hummingbird as he flies over strong green, red, blue and purple macuchi leaves on a stalk with green leaves. Healing, energy and future success are seen in Maximilian's colors.
This yarn painting is newly wrapped by the artist. Hence, the glare on some photos is due to this thin layer of plastic wrap that can be removed before hanging.
