    Description

Huichol Yarn Painting Mexican Folk Art Signed Spirit Sun Moon Arte Tepehuano
Mexican Indian folk art is truly unique and all handmade by the indigenous Huichol people of the Sierra Madre mountains in Mexico.  Beautiful, bright multi-colored yarn painting, or Neirika, handmade and signed with the story by the artist.
Using the traditional Huichol and Tepehuan techniques of adding Campeche beeswax onto a board and pressing (one-by-one) pieces of dried yarn into the wax, this bright yarn painting depicts the offering message to the Huichol Gods.
The artist defined the work with the story on the back of this yarn painting.  We have done our best to translate the description:
The healer uses the feathers and macuchis leaves to heal.
    Tepehuano Art
Gorgeous, bright neon colors accent this yarn painting.  The typical image of sun and moon, or unity between man and woman is joined by the Shaman's arrow pouch with feathers, the protecting scorpion, the Shaman star and dot and a wavy life line emanating from the moon's mouth.  This shows the healing between the moon's fertility and the sun's power and unity from the healer.
The outer edges are rows of black, purple, lavender and light blue.  The moon has a bright white eye and graduated colors of green and blue with cranberry colored lips.  The sun has bright neon colors of red, orange and yellow with cranberry lips and a white eye.  On the edges, the macuchi leaves are graduated colors of pink and a graduated red fire color leaves in the corner.
