Huichol Mexican Indian folk art is truly unique and all handmade by the indigenous people of the Sierra Madre mountains in Mexico.  This frog, La Rana, figurine is 100% authentic Huichol.
Absolutely gorgeous, red, burgundy, black, and clear iridescent gold micro glass beaded resin mix, la rana, frog toad sculpture.  Using the traditional Huichol techniques of pressing Campeche wax onto this resin/paper mache sculpture and adding, one-by-one, glass beads this rana macho depicts the offering message to the Huichol Gods.  We love how some of the clear gold beads are turned sideways to add real sparkle to this majestic figurine.
He is sitting with back legs splayed and mouth upturned.  The upturned mouth means, "to be born".  He has vibrant Peyote flower eyes and the corn, for health and prosperity of the people, grows under his body.  His front leg arrow symbols are Urus, or prayer arrows, that request gratitude to the gods.  On his back is a large, sparkly Peyote flower, honored by the Shaman for giving influence to the Gods, communication with ancestors and messages about the future crops, rain and healing of the people.
His body is hand painted green with white accents on his feet.  Handmade and signed by the Mexican artist Buyna.  Unique and an original piece of Huichol art.
