    Description

Huichol Beaded Art Lion Figurine Mexican Folk Art Large Majestic Cat 10.25"L
Huichol art is so unique and handmade by the indigenous Mexican Indian people of the Sierra mountains in Jalisco, Mexico.  This lion sculpture is made of a mixed resign paper mache' and adorned with micro glass beads.  The artist used the traditional Huichol technique of coating the sculpture with Campeche beeswax and then, one-by-one, added glass beads.  The Huichol do not use any type of pattern and rely solely on their symbols to create the offering message of each sclupture.
This majestic lion is made of red, royal blue, black and platinum pearl colored glass beads.  Red represents the fire and masculinity, blue is the Mexican ocean and the spirits in the sky, black is the earth and platinum is the understated elegance of his spirit.  His 3D sculptured mane is made of blue, red and platinum color glass beads.  His left side mane is all red, black and platinum colors for dimensional emphasis. The Huichol value the metallic beads and they cost double the regular colored beads.
    His
    strong body
embodies powerful symbols for the Gods.
His brawny back holds a corn symbol for health and prosperity of the people.
His eyes and left foot are God's Eyes for protection.
Several Peyote flowers on his body help the Shaman men during their religious ceremonies for predictions of the future, talking to the Gods and success for the families.
On his nose, an arrow requests gratitude and is the sacred offering to the Gods during the beginning of the ceremony.
His right hind leg has a gorgeous and large Kieri flower or "tree of the wind" that opens the Huichol spirits to the highest level of enlightenment.
Under his belly and on his right front leg is the Messenger Deer, supreme messenger to the Gods, with the Mother of the Corn symbolizing creation and the harvest goddess.  Strength, power and protection!
Beautiful gift for a Huichol collector or a partner who has everything!  We love this lion's strong, masculine and majestic look.
