    Description

Huichol Beaded Art Jaguar Figurine Signed Mexican Folk Art Cat Sculpture 8.25L
Huichol Mexican Indian folk art is truly unique and all handmade by the indigenous Indian people of the Sierra Madre mountains in Mexico.
Beautiful, multi-colored, glass beaded and hand carved resin/fishbone jaguar full body sculpture.  Handmade, signed original, by Mexican Huichol Indian, Iginio Bautista Bautista, Niuweme, in Mexico.
Using the traditional Huichol techniques of pressing Campeche beeswax onto this jaguar sculpture and adding, one-by-one, glass beads this bright and colorful jaguar depicts the offering message to the Gods.  The spiritual jaguar, Tatewari, is the fire messenger and guardian that holds the sacred vows taken by the Shaman leaders.
We love his sleek and stealth pose!
    Measurements:
    Height: 3 1/2"
    Front to Back: 8 1/4"
    Side to Side:  2 1/8"
Symbols are very important for communication by the Huichol:
The Peyote flower, seen on this jaguar's chest, right over his heart, and on his strong hind leg, is one of the most import symbols because it is honored by the Shaman for giving influence to the Gods, communication with ancestors, messages for future crops, rain and healing of the people.
His bright blue eyes, the bead color for water, are in the shape of God's Eyes for protection.
His left front leg also has a brilliant God's Eye for protection of his strong body.
Next to the Peyote flower is the scorpion, protector of the Peyote.
The salamander, God of Rain, and the Mother of the Corn are blessing his blue tail that is filled with the water color and clouds for the corn.
The Messenger Deer to the Gods is seen on his belly and a large candle on his back lights the way to the ceremony.
The candle has graduated colors of Peyote flowers for blessings.
He's (or she's) awesome.  Beautiful gift for a partner that has everything and perfect for a Huichol collector.
