Description
Huichol Beaded Art CATRINA Bride Groom Day of the Dead Mexican Folk Art FigurineHuichol Mexican Indian folk art is truly unique and all handmade by the indigenous people of the Sierra Madre mountains in Jalisco, Mexico.
Absolutely gorgeous, multi-color glass beaded (chaquira), Day of the Dead, Catrina bride and groom clay sculpture. Using the traditional Huichol techniques of pressing Campeche wax onto this sculpture and adding, one-by-one, glass beads this Day of the Dead La Calavera Catrina couple depicts the offering message. Their love is felt and they embrace arm in arm as they celebrate their big day.
This couple is two Huichol sculptures in one
! Handmade by the Mexican Huichol Indian artist, Librado Carrillo Carrillo. We love this Huichol artist's
haute couture
style and attention to detail in symbols.
A COA, certificate of authenticity, signed by the artist, is included.
The bride, dressed in a gorgeous beaded long sleeve and low-cut 3D mermaid style gown with scalloped hem, portrays an elegant pose. Made of hand placed glass beads in bright multi-colors. The front of her bodice is trimmed in the passion colors of red, orange, white and platinum pearl. Down the front of her gown is a huge corn stalk being fed by rain with deep roots for prosperity of her people. In the back, a large deer in the sacred grounds color of orange is the Messenger to the Gods. Below, a gorgeous Peyote flower has sparkly AB purple and AB blue colors and the Mother of the Corn, the ultimate creator, protects the Peyote. We love the festive detail at the bottom of her royal blue skirt. In her hand is a large 3D red and green Peyote flower bouquet. Her face is hand painted and she has black up-do hair accented with platinum pearl and red Peyote flowers.
The majestic groom is sporting the traditional Charro attire. His masculine, fire colors, bow tie is 3D. His jacket has red Peyote flower beaded buttons and has the symbols of corn, Mother of the Corn and, on the back, a 1/2 Peyote flower with red, orange and white pearl beads. His belt is 3D pink and green Peyote flowers with blue outline and we love how Librado used pink pearl beads above his buckle for sparkle. On his pants, a large white, gray and platinum Peyote flower is illuminated by the light of the human spirit white candle. On the back, two Peyote flowers, accented with the same pink pearl are protected by the white Messenger Deer. His extra large traditional sombrero features a yellow and platinum beaded ribbon and half white and green Peyote flowers on the underside. His face is hand painted and we love his masculine 3D mustache.
Their heads are detachable and can swivel from side to side for more romantic looks. Two sculptures in one. Gorgeous!
The symbols and bright colors Librado used on this double Catrina sculpture seems as if they are ready for the wedding ceremony in a most elegant way.
