Description
Beautiful Kalachakra mandala amulet from NepalAn extremely rare, handcrafted piece, great craftsmanship.
I bought the amulet in Pokhara, in a small shop run by a Tibetan family.
The amulet is beautifully processed from a silver mixture and real lapis lazuli. It's massive and pretty difficult through and through.
Diameter (measured without eyelet): 3.2 cm
Simply a wonderful lucky charm!
The super beautiful pendant represents a Kalachakra mandala:
Traditional mandalas are made in ritualized processes (e.g. monks make mandalas from colored sand) according to absolutely fixed templates; they only contain significant symbols of the Buddhist spiritual world. In meditative immersion, the inner path to absolute "emptiness", enlightenment, can be followed on the basis of this external image built up in stages.
The Kalachakra is the classic mandala, which is also a complex symbol in other Asian traditions than Buddhism. It reflects the five states of being (skandhas) of the human personality:
Matter, perception, inspiration, karma and knowledge.
The Kalachakra mandala represents the entire cosmos, which is arranged concentrically around the sacred mountain MERU (= center of the earth).
Its three-dimensional representation can be found in the form of the STUPA (= cult building for the storage of relics)
