    Chicago hosted a series of parades for the Apollo crews after each exciting space flight. The Apollo?Soyuz Test Project, conducted in 1975, was the first joint U.S./Soviet space flight. It was a symbol of the policy of détente that the two superpowers were pursuing at the time. The ASTP involved the docking of an Apollo command and service module and the Soviet Soyuz 19 capsule. This mission ceremoniously marked the end of the Space Race that had begun in 1957 with the Sputnik 1 launch. This poster reads "CHICAGO WELCOMES APOLLO-SOYUZ CREWS". It is an original parade street sign. These signs were attached to light poles on the parade route. It is dated on the back 10-14-75, which was the date of the parade. It measures 28" x 22" and is on heavy poster board. This ad is for the APOLLO-SOYUZ sign only.
