    Description

CATRINA Huichol Beaded Art Figurine Mexican Day of the Dead Folk Art 18"H
Huichol Mexican Indian folk art is truly unique and all handmade by the indigenous people of the Sierra Madre mountains in Jalisco, Mexico.
Absolutely gorgeous, multi-color glass beaded Day of the Dead Catrina resin/clay figurine.  Using the traditional Huichol techniques of pressing Campeche wax onto this sculpture and adding, one-by-one, glass beads this Day of the Dead La Calavera Catrina depicts the offering message to the Huichol Gods.
The Catrina was first seen by illustrator Jose Guadalupe Posada.  Catrina is related to the European styles of the early 20th century and gives a portrait to the Mexican people of aspiring to be an aristocrat in the early era.
Dressed in a gorgeous beaded long sleeve and off-the-shoulder 3D mermaid style gown with long ruffle hem, this Catrina portrays a sassy and elegant pose.  While assuming a sexy rhythmic nature, she knows all of the attention is on her.  Made of hand placed glass beads in purple pearl, silver metallic pearl and pewter silver metallic pearl.
    We love this Huichol artist's
    haute couture
style and attention to detail in symbols.  Elegant, understated and a huge piece of Huichol craftsmanship.  Her up-stretched long sleeves have stripes of purple pearl, silver pearl and platinum pearl.   Her one shoulder, off-shoulder, gown has a 3D angled top accent of pewter and silver pearl beads.  On the front, a large Peyote flower is protected by the scorpion and messenger deer to the Gods.  A gorgeous 3D bloom of melon colored calla lilies with green leaves adds dimension.   A huge beaded Kieri star flower below the calla lily is surrounded by Huichol children and the same Kieri flower star with children is on the back with the ultimate Messenger Deers adding protection.
Her "fishtail" hem embodies silver pearl Peyote flowers accented with platinum pearl beads being nourished by the rain.  Several bronze gold details are at the bottom ruffle, on her choker necklace, trim on the top of her gown, her bracelets and her rose shaped earrings.  We love her matte black up-do curled hair with large bronze gold flower.  Her head is detachable and can swivel from side to side for more sassy looks.  Gorgeous!
The symbols and sophisticated colors used on her dress make her seem as if she is ready for the Peyote ceremony in a most elegant way.
