    Description
7 STS (SPACE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM, official name of the Space shuttle) PAYLOAD HANDBOOKS, STS- nos. 52, 54, 56, 60, 64, 65, 66
(NASA, 1992-1994) Uniformly issued in pictorial wrappers (softcover), 3 x 5”, approximately 14 to 25 pages each. Illustrated with front cover patch, drawings or photographs, and with photographs, drawings and graphs in the text.
There were 135 Space Shuttle flights between 1981 and 2011, when the last was retired from service. These booklets detail 7 of those, flown between October 1992 and October 1994. After 1984, the numbers are not sequential; there were, for example, 9 STS-51 missions between 1984 and 1986, including STS-51L, the tragic Challenger flight that ended in disaster and led to the grounding of the Shuttle for two years. The booklets offered here are all for missions undertaken after Challenger and before the second disaster, the Columbia accident of 2003.
Each booklet includes black-and-white mini-photographs of crew members (including the first African-American male and female astronauts and the first male and female Hispanic-American astronauts) , pictures of the mission patches, details (sometimes classified) of the “payloads” (satellites launched and other mission objectives) and related Science Experiments conducted, various diagrams and photos of the payloads on the spacecraft and sometimes shuttle machinery.
